IF LILTING music can ensure a movie's successful run at the box-office, then
Sankranthi has to be a super hit. At least, S.A. Rajkumar can feel happy
about contributing to the film's success by composing excellent tunes to
beautiful lyrics penned mostly by E.S. Murthy, with one song each by
`Sirivennela' Sitaramasastry, Pothula Ravi Kiran and Bhaskarabatla Ravi
Kumar. The album starts with a pleasant romantic melody, Ela vachenamma
gulabeela vaana. Let's pardon Udit Narayan and Sadhana Sargam's faulty
pronunciation this once for the beauty of the lyrics is more heartening than
such nitpicking. Andala srimathiki cheppaleni alakanta by Hariharan and
Shreya Ghoshal is a cute song describing the sweet nothings and also the
squabbles between a wife and a husband.
Doli doli dolire - Anandale velluvaithe kallalona sung by Hariharan, S.A.
Rajkumar, Chitra and Kalpana - is all about loving and living with one's
family. Pelli paata will remind you of the song from the '90s', Wah wah
Ramji jodi kya banayi (remember Hum Aapke Hai Kaun and its umpteen
high-spirited wedding songs?).
On the flip side are songs like Ade paade vayasuku nede andina kaanuka by
Karthik and Chitra, Aasa aasagaa adigindi maatho saavaasam by S.P.
Balasubrahmanyam, which, though nice, is pretty slow, and Chilaka
chandanapattu cheere kattindoyi by Shankar Mahadevan and Sujata (which is
the only fast-beat song in the album), with a repeat version of Pelli paata.
And thus, you get to hear all the popular contemporary singers.
